A person is very astounded when he or she visits the Church of the Holy Nativity in Bethlehem and has the blessing of praying in the Cave where our Lord was born. As many of you know, the site of our Lord’s birth is directly below the Altar of this magnificent basilica and a silver "Star" on the floor of the Cave marks the place of His birth. The human mind cannot completely fathom the miracle and mystery of the birth of Christ and the fact that the Son of God became man and lived and dwelt among us.

Isn’t it interesting, that there are so many Old Testament Prophecies concerning Christ. The Prophet Isaiah, for example, spoke about the birth of the Messiah and how He would come to ransom Himself for us. God had prepared the Prophets to understand and look forward to the birth of the Saviour who would redeem all people from their sins.

Bethlehem, though presently struggling in political upheaval, is the symbol of God’s gentle and peaceful coming into the world. Bethlehem, although it is in a distant country far away is actually quite near to the heart and soul of the Christian believer. From little children, didn’t we all wonder at the magical words of "O Little Town of Bethlehem"?

Beloved Christian, don’t let this Christmas go by as just another busy holiday, like all the others. Allow your heart to reach out in a

spiritual way to your inner Bethlehem where the Christ-Child is seeking to be born. Allow yourself the joy and gladness of finding Him within your heart.

So many people have told me how much they are at peace when they take time out to be near God and to contemplate on His Mercy and Love.

Let this Christmas be a rebirth, within, of God’s loving kindness! A rekindling in all of us of true Christian feelings and thoughts of faith and love for Him and for our fellow man.

Let us rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for Christ is Born, Let us glorify Him.
