Saint Demetrios Helping Orphanage in Mexico

Saint Demetrios has located an orphanage to help for Christmas. We will be providing for the 62 children that live there. Our hopes are to furnish comforters for the boy’s section and a toy for each child. If all goes well, later this year our plan is to provide comforters for the girls. If anyone is interested in becoming involved please contact Anabel Whipple at 909-783-3908.

WISDOM FROM MOUNT ATHOS

The Writings of Staretz Silouan 1866-1938

We are God’s children – we are in the likeness of the Lord

God created man from dust but He loves us as a father loves his children, and waits with longing for us to come to him. The Lord so loved us that for our sakes He was made flesh, and shed His Blood for us and gave us to drink thereof, and gave us His most holy Body. Thus we have become His children, of His

Flesh and Blood. We are in the likeness of the Lord in the flesh, as children to the end are like their father, and the Spirit of God is a witness to our spirit that we shall be with God to all eternity.

The Lord never ceases to call us to himself: " Come unto me, and I will give you rest." He nourishes us with His most Holy Body and Blood. In His mercy He schools us by His word and Holy Spirit. He has revealed His mysteries to us. He lives in us and the Sacraments of the Church, and leads us where we shall behold His glory. But this glory shall each man behold according to the measure of his love. The more a man loves the more ardently does he set his face towards God in yearning to be with the Beloved Lord, and therefore he will approach the nearer to Him; while the man who loves but little will have but little desire for the Lord; and the man who does not love at all will neither wish nor aspire to see the Lord, and will spend his life in darkness.

Weep for the people who do not know God, who do not know His mercy. For to us the Lord showed Himself through the Holy Spirit, and we live in the light of His holy commandments.
