Nativity in Mexico
La Cuna Hogar Orphanage
by Deacon Michael Whipple
At 10am December 22nd we reached the La Cuna Hogar
Orphanage to meet the children and distribute gifts and supplies. The children
ages 6 months through 14 years old couldn’t wait to give us all of their
attention. After a bit of an effort we managed to get them all settled down.
Anabel started by having them all say the "Our Father", it was great
hearing all 62 little voices saying the "Our Father", which they knew
by heart. It was now time to pass out the presents and supplies, oh what a joy
it is to helps others.
During this trip we were able to supply 24 comforters for the boys, 62 gifts one for each of the children, misc. donations of food, and a couple of piñatas. Donations for this trip came from friends of Mexico, and St Demetrios Parish. To date we have $500 worth of donations only leaving us with $280 left to accumulate so that we can purchase the other 38 comforters.
We must be thankful to God that he has granted us the ability to help others. Many in this world would like to do the same, but cannot for one reason or another. Now that St Demetrios is coming closer to completion, we can now begin to focus more on helping others that are in need of a helping hand.
If anyone has any ideas (Uganda, Georgia, Africa and projects more local), or wants to become more involved let us know. It is important that we continue to focus our efforts in these areas. It is a well-known fact that God helps those that help others. We must not expect a return for our alms, however, if we are to prosper as a parish, it is imperative that we continue to give our support to those in need. Surely God will show His Mercy on all. The next trip to the orphanage God willing should occur in early spring. If anyone would like to come along please let us know.
